First Farmers' Market June 21st

I hope everyone is ready! The first Clay Center Farmers' Market is going to be open at 8 am on Saturday. It is located on the west side of the Courthouse. With all the crazy weather, it hasn't been an easy spring. I am hoping to see a good turn out of vendors and patrons. Things I know that will be available are the following:

Jams and Jellies
Zuchinni
Cucumbers
Onions
New Potatoes
Potted Tomato Plants
Potted Pepper Plants
Bedding Plants from the Master Gardeners
Buffalo Meat
Farm Fresh Eggs
and probably much, much more!

On a personal note, I was hoping to have Red Ripe Tomatoes. They are very close. As the old saying goes, "A watched pot never boils". I want to change it to a "Watched tomato never turns red"! I expect I will have them on the 28th.

As the year goes on I will try to post what vendors are expecting to have prior to Saturday. Please pass this link onto other people in the area. Tell you friends about the market and hopefully you can watch it grow.

See you all on Saturday!

What is your favorite part of the Clay Center Market?

As a vendor, my favorite part is meeting with all the people. Perhaps one of my fondest memories is when a lady came to me and said "I have not had a squash like this since my Grandfather died. He was Italian, lived in the Bronx, and grew this kind of squash. It was always my favorite. Now I come to Kansas and I find it again!"

The squash was an heirloom variety called Costata Romanesco.

On that day, I made more than a sale, I made a connection and brought back memories. It was more than just a squash, it was a fond memory of a loved one.

Do you have a fond memory or favorite moment from the Farmers Market?
